You need an LLM for your product. Should you use OpenAI’s GPT-4o, Claude from Anthropic, Gemini from Google, or Llama from Meta? Each has different strengths, pricing, and use cases.

Meta (Open Source)

  • Llama 2 (70B) - Open source
  • Llama 3 (405B) - Some versions open source
  • Llama 3.1 - Latest, very capable

Strengths:

  • Open source (can run locally, modify, fine-tune)
  • Very capable for open-source model
  • No API fees (if self-hosted)
  • Training data transparency
  • Popular in research

Weaknesses:
